Margus Vaher on men’s looks and health
Kaire Pagliuca
Men’s looks and health – it is not a widely discussed topic, but fortunately, it is becoming an increasingly popular subject. So we asked a truly beautiful, inspiring, and masculine man what damages the health and looks of men, what the beauty issues that men face are, and what makes a happy man. Allow us to present, the one and only – Margus Vaher! We managed to have an interview with Margus where he shares his beauty routines, his thoughts on men and women, and great ideas for improving the wellness of men in greater detail. Happy reading!
Please tell us about yourself – who is Margus Vaher? How would you describe yourself and your work?
I have been a freelance entertainer for over fifteen years, and during this time, I have performed as a musician, MC, and a stand-up comedian over a thousand times in total. I have released five albums as a singer, written three books, and I am one of the authors and participants of the hugely successful talk show Mida mehed naistele ei räägi? (What Men Never Tell Women).
Could you please let us into the men’s world? What are the main beauty concerns that confound men?
I generally feel like men have a healthy indifference towards their looks. If you are lucky to be handsome, you sail through life downwind. If you are lacking in the looks department, you simply buy a new engine for your yacht and get to your destination anyway.
I have been lucky in life. I received great genes from my parents and my daily beauty routine mostly includes at least eight hours of sleep, a cool shower in the morning, and a cup of pleasantly strong coffee.
It sounds great and the excellent genetic material is self-evident! Have you ever had to tackle any issues related to your appearance? How did you resolve them?
My greatest beauty issue is that I cannot have enough sleep during more hectic periods. I look like a love child of a werewolf and a vampire with only three hours of sleep and only cold shower or eye drops help in that case. In winter, my face tends to get very dry. Fortunately, I have an excellent moisturiser for that.
When compared to the average life span of men in the EU, Estonian men live less than women. Our men have a decade’s worth of healthy life years less than women. In your opinion, why is the life span of men so short? What damages men’s health nowadays? How could we solve it?
Men have always been willing to take more risks and this definitely affects the average life span. As society has unintentionally forced men to accept this weird stereotype that everyone must be an alpha-troll, then the mental aspect also plays a role. When men cannot alleviate stress in an intelligent way or are not helped in that, but are forced to swallow their emotions and seem strong, then there is no wonder that this pattern of behaviour does not exactly affect their life span in a positive direction.
What is the most detrimental factor affecting men’s looks? How is it expressed?
Low quality of sleep, lack of physical activity, and nagging by family members. There is no flower that would bloom if it were to be deprived of the sun and watered only with acid rain. A man opens up mentally and begins to glow when he has sufficient physical exercise, verbal acknowledgement, and his self-realisation is close to maximum.
What is an indispensable part of your beauty routine? What do you keep in mind when selecting products?
I use a good shampoo every day. Lately, my favourite has been the Magrada Oak line, which also has a shower gel. It leaves me feeling super fresh and it is as if I float through my day without touching the ground. Your favourite product should always have this effect.
What does your perfect self-care day look like? What do you do to care for your looks and well-being every day?
If I am completely honest, then a good-night’s sleep, morning sex, sometimes a ten-kilometre walk in the bog in refreshingly cold weather, followed by a cosy and warm room, a delicious meal, and an interesting book to read. I do not need much for happiness.
Sounds magical! You really do not need much to be happy. Is there something that you keep in mind when it comes to your hair? What are your favourite products for supporting the health and growth of hair?
My hair grows two millimetres a day so I get a haircut twice a month. As long as I am happy, my hair shines like gold. Sometimes I use a little hair paste to style it, but the most important thing for me is a good shampoo that is suitable for me, and once I find it, life is great.
Let’s talk about women. What do you consider important when it comes to the beauty of a woman? What makes a woman truly gorgeous?
In a woman’s appearance, I find grooming and cleanliness important. Everything else is secondary. Beauty is such a subjective notion, but when a woman is groomed and happy, then her eyes will sparkle, she will glow, and she will be the most beautiful woman in the world to someone.
How do you define a happy man? What is the beauty secret of a happy man?
A man is happy when he has found his mission and purpose in life. In other words, his self-realisation is close to maximum. This type of man undoubtedly attracts a compatible woman, and let’s be honest – a happy man is a loved, cherished, and appreciated man. Therefore, at least half of the secret to the happiness of a radiant man is a supportive and loving woman.
What are the three beauty products that every man should have?
- Magrada Oak Shampoo
- Bepanthen lotion
- A loving woman
Very cool! The last and no less important question – where can we see you on stage next?
In December, the talk show “What men don’t tell women?” coming up on a tour across Estonia, I’m really looking forward to it, because Marju Karin and Eero Spriit are my favorite stage partners, and every time I laugh myself to the bone listening to the brutal frankness of these two guys. If you succeed, come too and you won’t regret it!
